Maine Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements

Each year, the Maine Legislature recognizes one outstanding student from each county who is currently pursuing—or planning to pursue—postsecondary education at a Maine institution. These scholarship awards honor Maine residents who are high school seniors or full‑ or part‑time postsecondary students accepted to or enrolled in accredited Maine colleges, universities, or technical schools offering two‑ or four‑year undergraduate or graduate degrees.

Application Process

Awards are made on the basis of: academic excellence demonstrated by the content of the applicant’s transcript and GPA; the applicant’s activities, including employment and contributions to community; financial need demonstrated by the applicant’s FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS); two letters of recommendation; and an essay of 300 words or less from the applicant explaining his or her educational goals and intentions.

Only complete applications will be considered. A complete application consists of:

  • Completed 2026-2027 Maine Legislative Memorial Scholarship Application, which is now available
  • Essay (Make sure applicant’s name appears on all pages.)
  • Submission of transcripts, recommendations, and 2026-2027 FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS)*
      • College students should include both college and high school transcripts.
      • All transcripts should also indicate graduation date or anticipated graduation date.
  • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent, or expected graduation date

Recipients selected from applications submitted by the May 1, 2026 deadline will be notified in the Fall of 2026.  Notifications are not sent to those applicants not selected.

*Students should submit the 2026-2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in time to receive the 2026-2027 FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) back from the federal government. The FSS with Student Aid Index (SAI) must be included with the application.

Scholarships may be deferred for one year if it is to the student’s financial advantage.
