FAME is committed to providing comprehensive college access and financial education services to students and schools throughout the state of Maine. We educate students, families, counselors and advisors on how to pay for postsecondary education.

Financial Education Resources

Financial literacy plays a key role in a student's success. Studies show that students who understand money management concepts are more likely to enroll in and graduate from college. FAME has many tools, calculators and resources that you and your students can use.  


Maine-Based Financial Education Resources - a repository of organizations in Maine providing financial education resources, presentations, or workshops.  You may search for organizations in your county or statewide.


Elementary Coloring Book Series and Elementary Coloring Book Teaching Guide

Featuring FAME’s Cash & Max, this three-part series of coloring books was created to introduce elementary students (ideally grades K-2) with three key concepts; career exploration, education after high school and money management.

Get a Life and Get a Life Teacher's Guide
FAME’s Get a Life game is an interactive financial literacy game created primarily for middle school and high school students. Through this game, students learn about potential career options, college aspirations and financial education; including budgeting, wants vs. needs and making choices.

Financial Aid 101: A Training for Counselors and Advisors

Financial Aid 101 is a free day-long financial aid training that FAME offers each year in the fall to school counselors, college access advisors, and anyone assisting students with the financial aid process.



Translated Documents

The FAME Tool$ fact sheets are being translated into some of the most commonly spoken languages in Maine. Documents are added to the site as they are translated.

    The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) has announced that it has increased the amounts of NextGen College Investing Plan® matching grants to help Maine families that invest in education after high school. The annual NextStep Matching Grant is now up to $300 maximum and the Automated Funding Grant has doubled to $100.

    The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) has announced that the NextGen College Investing Plan®, Maine’s Section 529 college savings plan, will eliminate the $50 annual account fee for all clients in the advisor-sold (Client Select) series effective January 1, 2015.
