FAME Services for Counselors & Advisors

FAME is committed to providing comprehensive college access and financial education services to students and schools throughout the state of Maine. We educate students, families, counselors and advisors on how to pay for postsecondary education. Through our workshops, materials, trainings and web resources, we hope to assist Maine students and families achieve their educational goal$.

 

Financial Education Resources

Financial literacy plays a key role in a student's success. Studies show that students who understand money management concepts are more likely to enroll in and graduate from college. FAME has many tools, calculators and resources that you and your students can use.  

 

Elementary Coloring Book Series and Elementary Coloring Book Teaching Guide

Featuring FAME’s Cash & Max, this three-part series of coloring books was created to introduce elementary students (ideally grades K-2) with three key concepts; career exploration, education after high school and money management.

 

Elementary Workbook and Elementary Workbook Teaching Guide

This three-part series of workbooks was created to introduce elementary students (ideally grades three through five) with three key concepts; career exploration, education after high school and money management.

 

FAME Money Management Tool Kit

This booklet was designed to provide valuable money management information to high school, college students and adults and focuses on an eight-step approach to financial success.

 

Get a Life and Get a Life Teacher's Guide
FAME’s Get a Life game is an interactive financial literacy game created primarily for middle school and high school students. Through this game, students learn about potential career options, college aspirations and financial education; including budgeting, wants vs. needs and making choices.

 

Career Search 
FAME's Career Search allows students to find careers that match their personality traits or to simply review a particular career to assess compatibility with their interests. Select from the options below to get started with your search!

FAME Quick Tips

One-page fact sheets that provide useful tips and information related to financial aid and money management. Each fact sheet is created as a PDF for easy printing and distribution.

This Web-based training is held on the second Wednesday of each month during the academic year from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

"Get a Life" Financial Literacy Game

This interactive financial literacy game has two versions: one for middle school students and one for high school students. Students learn about potential career options, college aspirations and financial education. Students can also play the game online

 

Training Opportunities

FAME offers several training opportunities, including in-person events and monthly webinars. These workshops are created specifically for counselors and advisors working with students and their families. 

 

Translated Documents

The FAME Tool$ fact sheets are being translated into some of the most commonly spoken languages in Maine. Documents are added to the site as they are translated.

 

Publications

FAME has created many publications, brochures and flyers to help families understand the financial aid process. You may view, print or order materials on our publication order page.

    The Maine Senate recently confirmed Gov. LePage’s six nominees (two reappointments and four new members) to the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) Board of Directors. The six board members are: Jonathan A. Block of Portland; Reis Hagerman of Standish; James G. Howard of Topsham; Gregory E. Miller of Old Town; Rosaire Pelletier of Madawaska; and James P. Violette, Jr. of Waterville. Upon swearing in, the new members will join the fifteen-member FAME Board.
