College Access Counselor

FAME is seeking a dynamic and innovative professional to become part of our College Access and Financial Education team as a College Access Counselor. This position will be responsible for participating in the development, delivery and evaluation of FAME’s college access programs. FAME’s college access efforts focus on college savings, aspirations, navigating the financial aid process, financial education and debt management. Additional responsibilities include the development and presentation of various financial and education topics to constituents, through live presentations, videos, webinars, written/electronic materials and other formats. This position will participate in college fairs and provide trainings to organizations such as MESCA, MECA and MEEOA. Other outreach will include the delivery of NextGen information to community, business and school audiences, and parents as well as providing information to hospital staff and others regarding the Harold Alfond College Challenge.

The successful candidate will perform an extensive number of verbal presentations, sometimes with multiple presentations within the same day. The position will require evening and weekend presentations and participation in outreach events. Coverage area will primarily be in Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, Somerset and Waldo counties.

The successful candidate will meet the following minimum education and work experience requirements:

  • 4-year college degree, in business, social sciences, education marketing or related field is required (or an appropriate combination of education and work experience)
  • Minimum of 3-years related work experience required. Understanding of federal financial aid higher education programs is required.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in interpersonal relations, both oral and written communication.
  • The ability to clearly present to audiences of varying sizes is required.
  • Strong computer skills with significant experience in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Time management and problem solving skills required. Superior organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must possess a positive, achievement-oriented attitude to build strong relationships with all clients, vendors and staff.

Marketing Communications Intern

FAME is seeking an effective team member to become its Marketing/Communications Intern for the summer of 2017. This position entails working on projects to build yearly editorial content calendar and develop social media content for both education and business lines. Acting as an in-house professional editor and proofreader for all communications, the marketing/communications intern will write, edit and execute website changes, marketing email communications, electronic newsletters and webinar content. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the evaluation of marketing strategies using tools such as Google Analytics. Projects include but are not limited to content and social media development, voice-of-the-customer research, traditional direct marketing campaign implementation, and other marketing communications tasks as assigned. You will receive training in current and traditional marketing tactics such as direct mail, print collateral and radio/television production and execution.

This position is a paid internship and will be performed for 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August, 2017.

The successful candidate will meet the following minimum education and work experience requirements:

  • Some college, preferably enrolled in communications, marketing, business or related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including proofreading and editing.
  • Strong computer skills with significant experience in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; training in graphic design, writing, WordPress, social media publishing, and Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) a plus.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

Financial Analyst

FAME is seeking a dynamic and innovative professional to become its Financial Analyst. This position provides a variety of complex accounting and financial services for the FAME.  This includes preparing financial forecasts and models, cash flows, and analyses for all FAME programs; maximizing cash flow and investments by working with FAME’s investment advisor and staff; coordinates product costing and pricing; and tracking various performance measures and critical indices for the FAME; all of which will assist management in making substantive program decisions. Additionally, this position will perform periodic internal reviews of the FAME’s programs. This position involves working extensively with the accounting staff and staff of other departments to understand the FAME’s programs for ensuring proper and accurate models, forecasts, customer satisfaction, and staff and vendor performance.

The successful candidate will meet the following minimum education and work experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.  Strong knowledge of accounting principles is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related work experience. Extensive experience in accounting, financial forecasting and analysis is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel spreadsheets is required; experience with Microsoft Office software is preferred.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in interpersonal relations, including both oral and written communication.
  • Prefer strong organizational skills to handle project management.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
