- Who is Eligible to apply? Applicants must be high school seniors with a disability identified under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Maine Special Education Regulations Chapter 101. Special consideration is given to applicants with exceptional achievement in: academics, extra-curricular, core-corricular, volunteerism, leadership, work ethic, and ability to deal with adversity.

- Who is Eligible to apply? The Kenneth Jordan Higgins Memorial Scholarship Fund extends scholarships to student(s) who have been accepted for admission to an accredited post-secondary vocational school, college, university, or graduate school. Students must demonstrate financial need in order to attend such institutions and be residents of Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, Falmouth, Scarborough or Cape Elizabeth.
- Scholarship amount: Scholarships are provided under the terms of the Last Will and Testament of Harlan B. Higgins of South Portland in memory of his son, Kenneth Jordan Higgins. Scholarships awarded vary by the needs of the applicants, number of applications received, and the financial resources available to the Scholarship Committee. Last year, the 2010 Scholarship Committee awarded two scholarships totaling $11,522. Awards will be made later in the month of May 2011.

- Who is Eligible to apply? High school seniors, college students, and adults continuing their education at a post-secondary educational institution may apply. Applicants shall have been residents of Maine for the past two (2) non-college years.
- Scholarship amount: $1,000
- How are the scholarships awarded? The scholarship is given for the best short essay on the specified topic. Essays must be 300 words or less and written in the English language. Submitted essays will be judged primarily on the basis of content; grammar, spelling and format will also be taken into account. Essays should be submitted in a written form and must be in a predominantly text format.

Applicants must complete an application and write an essay on the following statement: "A method of improving society's quality of life and a part of social responsibility is to actively contribute to the community." - Who is Eligible to apply? Any graduating high school senior who intends to pursue a career or profession related to law enforcement.
- Scholarship amount: 3 - $500 scholarships for any two or four post High School Law Enforcement scholastic program.
- How are the scholarships awarded? Decisions on applications are made by a scholarship committee. Selection is based primarily on scholastic achievement and financial need. The scholarships are not renewable.
- Application process:
Applicants must submit an application along with an official high school transcript and a letter describing their interest in law enforcement. Applications are available from high school Guidance Offices, on-line at www.mainechiefs.us, or by calling Maine Chiefs of Police Association at (207) 621-8441.

When a student applies for admission at USM, he/she is automatically considered for many of these scholarships. However, there are some scholarships that require an application, or a faculty nomination. Scholarships may also require demonstration of financial need, which can be determined from the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processor. - Who is Eligible to apply? The scholarship will be awarded to dependents of employees of Wasco who are graduating grom a Maine high school and have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning. Only one scholarship will be awarded per school district.
- Scholarship amount: $250
- How are the scholarships awarded? Applicants are selected based on academic achievement as well as displaying a positive character both individually and as a member of the school and general community. In the event of more than one applicant per school district, the Guidance Office will be asked to make the selection, based on the foregoing achievements as well as a relative need for financial assistance.
- Application process: Parents of the applicants should notify the Wasco Human Resources office of their child's eligibility.
